82,200 PCO machines are now in the country

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said that the last batch of the 82,200 precinct count optical machines (pco) arrived last Saturday.

The machines, that arrived one day before the deadline set my the Comelec, are now stored at a warehouse in Cabuyao, Laguna, where they will be configured and tested in preparation for the May 10, 2010 national and local polls.

The machines will count and transmit the results of the scheduled polls.

The Comelec will be deploying 74,000 machines in clustered polling places nationwide while the remainder will be used a back-up to machines that will not function during election day.

In another development, Comelec Commissioner Gregorio Larrazabal said the commission would investigate the case of Pastor Apollo Quiboloy on why the validation of his voter’s registration in the second district of Davao was not forwarded to the Barangay Tamayong, which is in the third district of Davao where he is a registered voter.

“We’re checking now why that validation was not forwarded to the third district. He has just one registration, in Tamayong. But the issue here is the validation in the second district. We’re checking on the officials of Comelec who were designated or assigned in that area but as of now it looks like there was a number of movement of personnel already in the years that passed. So the provincial election supervisor of Davao is conducting an investigation right now…,” he said.

He said that Quiboloy’s case was not a case of multiple registration as he just registered in another district.

Larrazabal said that in 2003, the Comelec allowed that any voter can validate his/her registration anywhere.

“So what happened was that it appears that the validation of his record was not forwarded to the office in Tamayong. It’s not actually multiple registration. It’s just that the validation was done in another district. He’s been voting in the same district,” he said.

In the case of Sebastian Duterte, Larrazabal said the commission would also check on the case of Sebastian Duterte, son of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.

The young Duterte was registered more than ones.

In a text message, Mayor Rodrigo Duterte said that his son, Sebatian has transferred residence legally, including the precincts where he voted.

He noted that it was not the responsibility of the Comelec to explain the error.
